Bosa and surroundings

On the splendid coast of western Sardinia, 45 kilometers south of Alghero and 65 north of Oristano, is the city of Bosa, a charming and authentic town in the province of Oristano. Set in a magnificent setting of rocky hills, verdant valleys, palm trees, Italian architecture and an unspoiled Mediterranean coast, Bosa offers a perfect escape from a busy city life. Compared to many other tourist resorts, Bosa manages to escape overcrowding during the summer months, and for those looking for tranquility, it is the ideal place. The cobbled streets, the impressive palaces with their traditional balconies, squares and bars capture the true Mediterranean spirit. Bosa was built along the banks of the Temo River and was once a thriving center of economic activity. Even today, along the river, there are the remains of the ancient tanneries, which were once used to produce a very fine leather which was then exported throughout Europe. The bank of the Temo is the ideal place to rest from the hot midday sun and to observe the fishing boats in the shade of the huge palm trees. The southern bank boasts a splendid view of the imposing Malaspina castle, or Serravalle.

Bosa also offers wonderful opportunities for outdoor activities such as walking, cycling, diving, rowing, golf, fishing, windsurfing, bird watching and horse riding. Several local agencies offer excursions to the most interesting places in the surroundings: the nearby valleys of Modolo and S’Abba are a fertile paradise of vineyards and olive groves. The area is home to Malvasia di Bosa, a famous fortified white wine. There is a path that passes through the vineyards, and guided tours of the cellars are available. The nearby hill towns of Magomadas and Cuglieri offer fantastic views of outstanding natural beauty.
